This is a practical handbook written by Igiea Lanza di Scalea, Fabio Caon, Valeria Tonioli and Fabrizio Lobasso – for the use of officials, employees, entrepreneurs, students, scholars, researchers, tourists from both countries, aiming at easing the complexity of dialogue between the two cultures, at times due to diversity in values, language, non-verbal communication and communicative contexts.
“The key assumption” – explains Fabrizio Lobasso, Ambassador of Italy in Sudan – “is that the inclusive knowledge, for those who work abroad in diversity contexts, is a powerful driver for increasing work performances. Indeed, it is in virtue of this inclusiveness, that we frame the improvement of Italian diplomatic action impact in Sudan and the achievement of concrete Italian promotional goals in the country, in politics, in commerce, in cooperation for development, in institutional communication, and through cultural and charities activities”.
The handbook is based on four fundamental sections. In turn, they are part of a model of communicative competence experienced for years by the Venetian school: the dimension of values (such as space, time, religion, family); the verbal one (e.g. language, voice, words, moves), non-verbal communication dimension (e.g. proxemic, vestemic, object-based); and the contextual one (dialogues, places, meetings, negotiations).
