Letter by Min. Di Maio in response to the solidarity message by the Sudanese Min. of Foreign Affairs, Asma M. Abdalla

On 30th March 2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Di Maio replied to the message of solidarity he had received from the Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Asma M. Abdalla on the 16th of March 2020.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation

Rome, 30th March 2020

Dear colleague,

I should like to express my deep appreciation for the message of solidarity and closeness you have conveyed to my Country and to the Italian people, as a testament tothe solid bond that unites us even under the current challenging circumstances.

Onlya few weeks ago, during her visit to Sudan, Vice Minister Del Re had discussed with You the political developments and the excellent bilateral relationship between Khartoum and Rome. Sadly, we have since witnessed the spread of the virus which has forced our Countries to adopt all measures possible in order to seek to respond promptly and effectively to the health emergency.

The present situation requires an exceptional joint effort and unprecedented global coordination which may be reinforced through demonstrations of support and solidarity at the international level.

I hope we shall have the opportunity to meet once this difficult situation has subsided.

Yours sincerely,

Luigi Di Maio
